He was a student at the same school, West Catholic High School and Hargrave Military Academy. During his career , he broke Philadelphia city records, with 1,007 carries and running to 300 yards at least five times. As as a senior, he was selected all-city, and also rushed at a distance of 2,813 yards. He completed his high school season with 7,429 yards while scoring 85 touchdowns over four seasons. These numbers broke the record of the current Chicago Bears running back Kevin Jones. In 2004 at Hargrave the team was battling Robert Barcliff and Andre Brown. In the high school system, Brinkley was nicknamed “Boonah”. Brinkley was named the winner of during the 2003 Big 33 game.
In the 2009 NFL Draft, Brinkley was accepted to the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent. He was released in September 4th, 2010 however, he was re-signed the following day on the practice team. The Chargers made him a member of the active roster the 22nd of November. Brinkley was dismissed on December 16, then transferred as a practice team member on the 19th of December. Following the year, the player was a waiver during the final cuts and later was re-signed the practice team on September 12, 2011. On September 15 he was let go but was re-adjusted to the team practice squad the following day on the 17th of September. The Chargers released him the following week and then signed him again in September. Brinkley was added into the team’s active roster the 22nd of October. Brinkley recorded his debut touchdown in his career on the 31st of October, 2011 during the Tuesday Night Football game at Kansas City. He racked up 43 yards in 10 carries and reached the goal line with the score of 2 yards. But, Brinkley was diagnosed with concussion following the game.
